国際学会「ウッデバラ・シンポジウム」概要
・当国際学会「ウッデバラ・シンポジウム」は、1998年にスウェーデンのウエスト大学とヨンショーピング大学の共同研究プロジェクト（4都市地域（リセキル、トロルヘッタン、ウッデバラ、ヴェネルスボリの各周辺地域）で欧州連合に関連する地域政策イニシアチブの評価を実行）として始まった。
・これをきっかけに、1998年以降、毎年、国際学会として世界各国の学術機関で年次研究大会を開催しており、2019年で22回目になる。スウェーデン（諸地域）、アメリカ（フェアファックス、カンザスシティ）、日本（京都）、イタリア（バーリ、ベルガモ、ラクイラ）、ポルトガル（ファロ）、ノルウェー（フレドリクスタ）、デンマーク（センダボー）、イギリス（ロンドン）にある学術機関で開催され、国際的な学術ネットワークを構築している。
・世界各国から様々な分野の研究者（経済地理、起業家精神、国際ビジネス、経営、政治学、地域経済学、中小企業経済学、社会学、都市・地域計画など）が参加して研究発表を行っている。
・日本では、2008年に「第11回ウッデバラ・シンポジウム2008」が京都大学で開催された。

会場地「ラクイラ」（イタリア）
・2019年の年次研究大会会場地のラクイラ（イタリア）は、ローマから東に高速バスで2時間弱ほど離れた町である。落ち着いて品格のある優しい人々の多い町という印象を受ける。
・過去に大地震が繰り返し発生しており、2009年に起こった大震災では、町が壊滅的被害を受けた。市街地に残る歴史的建造物の多くも被災した。10年後の2019年6月現在、未だに多くの建造物が修復工事中の状況にある。
